The DC Pie Co. project centered on revitalizing a highly celebrated Miami pizzeria that boasted an exceptional culinary product but suffered from a stagnant and disconnected brand identity. Through a comprehensive "Artisanal Restoration," AJNCI strategically unified the brand’s digital, print, and in-store design languages. This top-to-bottom transformation elevated the restaurant's market presence to authentically match the high quality of its food, creating a cohesive, modern experience across all customer touchpoints.

CHALLENGE

Despite serving some of the freshest and most acclaimed brick-oven pizza in Miami, DC Pie Co.'s existing brand identity failed to reflect the premium quality of its offerings. Owner Dominic Cavagnuolo recognized that the brand's overarching "look and feel" had grown stale, lacking depth, cohesion, and modern appeal. This disconnect resulted in a fractured consumer experience across the physical restaurant space, digital platforms, and marketing assets, creating an urgent need for a strategic creative rebuild to realign the brand's presentation with its authentic culinary roots.

The rebrand delivered a fully integrated and authentic brand identity system that successfully transformed DC Pie Co. into a modern, high-quality neighborhood staple. DC Pie Co., founded by Dominic Cavagnuolo, is a celebrated Miami-based pizzeria located in the Brickell neighborhood. They offer a modern twist on classic Brooklyn-style, brick-oven thin-crust pizza. Priding themselves on using fresh, high-quality ingredients, their menu features handcrafted pies alongside fan-favorite dishes like Eggplant Parm, Chicken Parm, and Berry & Ricotta Calzones, all served in a laid-back, family-style dining atmosphere.

We initiated the "Artisanal Restoration" with an exhaustive brand discovery and identity audit, evaluating every single element of the DC Pie ecosystem from typography to customer touchpoints. Working directly with the founder, we translated the sensory experience of their food into a comprehensive design system. This included developing a color palette directly inspired by their ingredients: the deep red of marinara, the light cream of mozzarella, and golden crust tones. We also built out a robust digital asset library featuring various texture applications—like wood, marble, flour, and crust—and multiple logo use-case scenarios including wide, stacked, on-black, and on-white variations. To ensure operational consistency across all internal teams, we deployed this entire "living" brand style guide through the Brandy asset management platform.

Moving beyond standard aesthetic updates, we provided sweeping creative direction to oversee the brand's entire visual narrative. A major component of this was elevating corporate communications; we designed sophisticated, high-level presentation decks for investors that visually mapped out DC Pie Co.'s new scalable "Hub and Spoke" franchise expansion model and projected financial economics. We also created comprehensive press kits for marketing outreach and established standardized photography and video methods. This involved directing specific photoshoots to capture both high-end, in-restaurant product macro shots and dynamic lifestyle imagery of customers enjoying the brand off-premises.

To ensure the premium brand experience continued after the food left the restaurant, we executed a complete top-to-bottom redesign of all physical packaging elements. This scope included crafting branded coasters, custom stickers, and newly engineered pizza boxes that perfectly leveraged the new visual identity. As a specific example of our strategic attention to the consumer experience, we designed the pizza boxes to prominently feature the brand's "Trust the Crust" tagline alongside helpful at-home reheat instructions—guiding customers to place their leftover pizza directly on a 375°F oven rack for 8-10 minutes to guarantee the perfect crispy crust at home.

To translate the physical restaurant's vibe into a seamless digital journey, we completely deconstructed the existing website's usability across four key consumer intents: order, visit, shop, and learn. We mapped out a custom new site architecture that included a "Shop the Gear" digital merch hub, a "Join the Family" loyalty rewards page, and a dedicated catering request portal. To guarantee friction-free conversion, we overhauled the UX by cleanly integrating external platforms: Incentivio for streamlined app-based pickup and delivery, and Resy for seamless table reservations. Furthermore, we standardized the UI templates for the menu to visually highlight the sensory details of their food, putting a spotlight on premium ingredients like their imported mozzarella di bufala and hand-crushed San Marzano tomatoes.

As part of the forward-looking infrastructure rebrand, we utilized 3D CAD modeling to build out digital renderings of the restaurant environment before any construction began. This allowed us to strategically visualize and plan the new patio decor, equipment placements, and spatial flow to ensure it matched the new style guide. The final physical buildout brought these renderings to life, featuring a completely refreshed restaurant exterior with custom red branded umbrellas, new front-of-house signage, and custom patio planters specifically constructed to look like rustic wooden pizza boxes.

To turn the staff and loyal customers into brand ambassadors, our team designed a complete apparel lineup that accounted for every level of restaurant service. We conceptualized and designed custom shirts, aprons, hats, and chef coats. Taking the process a step further, we established a fully functional physical and digital merchandise shop, actively sourcing the clothing and materials directly through trusted printers to guarantee proof of concept and quality before moving into large-scale ordering for the staff and online store.
